Simple, free, task management/todo software?

Hi, all.

I'm looking for a fairly simple and lightweight task management application for Windows, that will let me keep track of tasks that need to be done, and who they are currently assigned to.

I know that I can use heavy hammers such as Project Management tools, but I'm looking for something a bit smaller than that.

Save me from yet another XLS!

Thanks!

Basecamp.

Think of "web-based" as "free offsite backup".

I think there is an iPhone app that connects to this too.

If you can host it yourself, Mantis is good:

http://www.mantisbt.org/

It's generally treated as bug tracking software, but it's really good for general task management too.

I think you will find ToDo List by AbstractSpoon to be up your alley.

Basecamp has a free plan:

You have selected the Free 1-project plan. You’ll be able to manage 1 project with the free plan (there is no time limit on the free plan — you can use it for free as long as you’d like). You can always upgrade to a paying plan later if you need to manage more projects or share files
