When I first released my product for C++ Builder I made the mistake of not doing enough market research. When I posted the announcement in this forum in 2007, I was asked to do a market research first. I had a vision for this new product long ago but I started working only after I had some eye opening advice from this forum and now I have my product released after a year of hard work. Thanks guys. Have a look at http://www.twinforms.com/products/wxformsdelphi/index.php for my new product
Congratulations. I'm a Delphi dev but not really looking to use cross development at the moment. But, it is one of the big criticisms you hear leveled at Delphi. Just a couple of quick things that stood out at me. Your quote... "Unlike other wxWidgets Form designers, wxForms allows you to do form designing, code editing and debugging in one single place." Should be more prominent. But the statement also makes me think of what the other Form Designers offer that you don't. Perhaps... "The only wxWidgets Form designer allows you to do form designing, code editing and debugging in one single place." Pricing. I think the most recent Delphi IDE should be first in the last. When I see Delphi 7 first, I think your product is out of date, until I find 2009 at the bottom of the list. Also I think the pricing is too complex. Why not just offer the 2 Universal options? People aren't saving that much with the other packs. Good luck.
Thanks Ian. I have fixed the first two issues you have mentioned. I'll try to work a simple pricing scheme in the future.
It looks really interesting, but your site is clearly geared towards Delphi/C++ Builder users who might want wxWidgets and not vice versa. As someone who is in the opposite camp, it's kind of confusing. For example: your download is just for wxForms and requires C++ Builder (or similar) - is there a demo of C++ Builder anywhere? What's the difference between the different C++ Builder/ RadStudio products? To the extent that I can find any info on Borland C++ Builder (it seems surreally difficult to do so), it looks really expensive, so what is it exactly that you're selling for $30? Are you pushing CodePaks because you specifically need that version of wxWidgets rather than one I might already have installed, or are you just assuming I haven't got it installed and recommending CodePaks as an easy method of installing? Are you targeting it as you are because nobody who is not already using Delphi/C++Builder is likely to be interested in doing so!
congrats on the product release and don't forget to come back and let us know how sales are going, even if in general terms.
Hi Paul, The product is targeted toward people who are using Delphi and C++ Builder. You can find more information about C++ builder at http://codegear.com. Since C++ Builder is very expensive compared to VS ( it is very good for Windows Development alone (VCL)), I'm not sure if any people who want to do Cross platform would buy a new copy of C++ Builder. As for as my C++ builder product is concerned I'm only targeting existing users. Users can use any version of wxWidgets. The CodePaks are given only for users to install wx very easily. Let me know if you have any other questions. | |
